San Lorenzo in Fonte

Chiese

Description

Rebuilt in the 16th century and restored in 1628, it derives from the legend of the place where San Lorenzo was imprisoned, before his martyrdom for having baptized a centurion with water from a spring. A staircase leads to the basement, which can be visited and where the place of imprisonment and the cistern are located, dating from between the 1st and 2nd century AD. The church stands on a previous early medieval one and on ancient Roman buildings.
